This is an album that I started at GASC 2008 in a class taught by Staci Etheridge. The pictures are from summer 2009 in Texas and represents some of the things that make Reino happy.
The album and papers are all from Cosmo Cricket. The paper is the Get Happy collection. The letters in the album spell H-A-P-P-Y.

Salo Family Christmas 2007 – album
I made this album from the Scenic Route Roxbury collection. I used a Rusty Pickle chipboard album as the base and painted the edges white and gold then used some Stickles to give it sparkle.
The front cover features me (according to Reino). The paper title is from a page of die-cuts. The zigzag circle is what was left after I punched the die-cut out of the paper. I cut it out and used it. Can’t let anything go to waste!
Going home
We were scheduled to leave Dallas at 1:30 pm on Monday, but were delayed for 2 hours due to the rain. I was lucky that Reino was in a photogenic mood. Here he is telling Isi that he’s on his way home.
And we are finally on our way. Fortunately, we had 4 hours between our scheduled arrival from Dallas and our departure for Frankfurt. I love flying with Reino. All of these photos were taken with the camera on my phone. I have other (camera) photos of him studying the safety cards. Every flight, every time. He has to go over the safety card. He askes me about each feature that he doesn’t recognize and then covers the whole thing with me. Every flight, every time.
And once we arrived in Chicago, of course there was another delay. Our aircraft had a problem so they were switching it out. Because Reino is such a picky eater and we were hungry, we had a pizza from Wolfgang Puck Express. Quite possibly the best pizza I’ve ever had. Okay, not the best but one of the top 5. Perfect crust, pesto, four cheeses and tomatoes. Yum!
Long story short, we had a long layover in Frankfurt. We had 8 hours between flights so I booked a hotel room and we went to have a nap. I set Reino up with a laptop and he watched movies and played games while I slept. I vaguely remember him asking if I would like for him to take a nap with me. I woke up and he was beside me. I realize that it wasn’t doing anything for our jetlag, but I knew there was no way I could stay awake for 30 hours and keep track of my kid and our stuff in an airport.
On the shuttle ride back to the airport, the driver had to stop for gas. I took a few pictures in the scenic town of Langen, somewhere near Frankfurt. I think this was a used car dealership.
A nice traffic sign and an interesting building.
And finally at the airport. We spent a few minutes riding this motorcycle before finding a McDonald’s with a fantastic space capsule. But this is enough pictures for now. The jetlag is bad, so I’m going to try to get him to sleep now.
Flip flop, flip flop
No, I don’t boycott my blog in the summer! I’ve been busy, busy, busy here in Texas. We arrived in Texas on 21 May. On the 23rd, Reino and I flew with my mom to visit my sister in Virginia. We drove with Brenda to Pennsylvania to visit my aunts and cousins. On the way there, we stopped in West Virginia to meet Leslie! We had a great time meeting her and Elizabeth.
While in Virginia, my niece Stephanie and I made a flip flop album. This was the first attempt for both of us and while we did have some difficult moments, we are both pleased with the results. I’m definitely going to make more of these.
Stephanie working on the flip flop album cover.
The completed cover. She will write the title of her album once she decides on the pictures.
The back of the closed album. We put the ribbon on it to tie it closed because this is a prototype :). We will do some things differently in later albums, but this one needed a little more support to keep it together.
These are the pages I made. The two green polka dot ones are for pictures.
Stephanie made these pages, including the cover.
On the Wrong Road Again
I’ve been planning this for almost a year. I went on a road trip with my sister last summer and we made several U-turns between her home and our destination. I don’t think she reads my blog. If you know her, don’t tell her what I made for her. Yes, I handcut the title.
I have to put my scrapping supplies away now. I have a lot to do to get ready for Monday.
I’m getting excited!
Reino and I leave for Texas in a little over two weeks! We’ve had our tickets for months and I can’t believe it’s finally almost time to go. I’ve registered for some classes at the Great American Scrapbook Convention in Arlington. Rachel, Shawna and I are going for all three days! Jackie is going, too, but she hasn’t told us when or for how long. I’m most excited about the alcohol inks workshop that I’ll attend on Saturday. Rachel and I got to use the inks very briefly last year during a make-n-take and I was hooked. I’m sure I’ll buy a lot of them. It’s a pity they aren’t cheap, but thank goodness for a weak Dollar. 😉
Jouni finally made his travel reservations and I won’t have to survive 6 weeks without him. We will also be together for our anniversary. I can’t believe it’s been 7 years. It feels like 7 minutes….. under water. Just kidding. We love to say that. Now we just have to find a cat sitter. It’s going to be very complicated this year because Delilah has to be medicated daily. Any volunteers? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
